โGrace precedes the change.โ What a needed reminder. God met Jacob while he was still running from the consequences of his own deceptionโnot to excuse what he had done, but to begin the long work of transforming him.
I love the contrast between Babel and Bethel: humanity trying to build upward, and God choosing to come down. We do not reach Him through effort or self-repair. In Christ, heaven has come near to usโeven in the places where we are ashamed, frightened, and far from home.
"We do not expect Him at the kitchen table at 2 a.m., in the hospital corridor, in the car after the argument, in the shame we cannot shake."
I love this. This is exactly where he is - all we need to do is ask. This is something I have struggled to learn and still struggle to accept. Today's reflection is a good reminder.
3.25am...read this and re read it.... the contrast between this devotion based on the truth of who He is and His word and what is happening in life inwardly and outwardly is often like two opposing sides...when the hits keep coming and all that can be shaken is shaking ....and God saying fear not....

Glory to God for all things. The ladder is mercy made visible: heaven meeting the fugitive where fear had narrowed the road.
